Herbal Medicines (THR)
In 2004, a European Directive on Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products (2004/24/EC) was introduced. Traditional Herbal Registrations are granted by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), and require the quality and safety of the product to be demonstrated.
Efficacy is based on the traditional use of herbal medicine, provided the claimed pharmacological effects are plausible. In 2009, EchinEeze paved the way for Natures Aid to become the first UK manufacturing company to achieve a Traditional Herbal Registration. Today, Natures Aid boasts one of the largest ranges of Traditional Herbal Remedies in the UK.
Unlike other botanical remedies, some herbal medicines must be put through rigorous testing to be granted a Traditional Herbal Registration (THR license). This is done by testing the quality, safety and more of the herbal remedy to ensure it is fit for purpose and safe.
