CBD stands for Cannabidiol.  It is a compound naturally found in the industrial hemp plant, and which has been subject to a great deal of publicity in recent years.  CBD Oil is made by extracting CBD from the hemp plant, and then mixing it with a carrier oil.

CBD – NOVEL FOODS.

A Novel Food is a product which does not have a long history of safe usage within Europe.  If a product is classed as ‘Novel’, a full safety dossier needs to be submitted to the relevant authorities. CBD and all other cannabinoids, have been classified as Novel. As a result, in February 2020, the UK Food Standards Agency announced that the only CBD products which could legally stay on the market after March 2021, would be those who had submitted a validated Novel Foods Application.  This is to safeguard consumers.
